These stories are a collective chronicling of the residents of Silver Springs, a fictional town in an alternate America, sometime around 1860. The Second Industrial Revolution is in full gear, the Victorian Era is at its peak. Babbage's clockwork Difference Engine has made calculating difficult equations into a simple affair. Darwin has revolutionized the field of biology in much the same way with Origin Of The Species. Who knows what wonders man may discover next?
The acrid scent of sulfur guards the town like a pack of frothing hounds. Silver Springs, named for the Silver family who first settled the land and for the natural hot springs dotting the countryside. There are coal and iron mines in the mountains and caves to the north, and a forest claimed by the Wolfe family to the west. Marshlands and swamp govern the west of town, and the only road out is south. Parents tell the younger generation that the northern caves are inhabited by vampires who feast on lazy children in the night. The elder generation says that if the children lie, then werewolves will come out of the forest to gnaw on their bones.
The children of Silver Springs are hard-working and truthful.
They know the stories are true.
